The Winchester Gate, or "The Winnie" to its friends, is the only pub still standing and working in the area where the ring road was built. It is a small, lively local pub which features regular live music. It also serves excellent beer and has been awarded "Pub of the year" by the local branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, more than once.
