After the success of the Winchester Street mosaic we are very pleased to be able to create another community historical mosaic for Greencroft Street.

Many thanks to Salisbury City Council for giving us permission to use the side wall of the garages on Greencroft Street as the site for the finished mosaic. Thanks to them too for providing some of the funding. The other funders were Wiltshire Council, Friends of St Thomas’ Church and Salisbury & Stonehenge Tours.

The design for the mosaic feaures pictures of what life was like on Greencroft Street in the 1940s-1960s, and some of the characters and stories of the area. These have all come from local people, either from our archive or from a design workshop held in September 2017 where people born on the street had the chance to share their stories. You can read more about the details of the design on the “Interpreting the Mosaic” page (coming soon!)

The mosaic was made in a series of workshops held a St Thomas’s Church in the Autumn of 2017, plus one drop-in day where anyone could add a whole tile to the border. In all over 70 people participated in making the mosaic, and their feedback about their experience was overwhelmingly good.
